Nawabu Culture
The word “Nawabu” is an Indigenous Brazilian (Hátxa Kuin) word that means “All of the People”.
Nawabu Culture is a fiscally sponsored LLC organization with a mission to be a vehicle and a bridge for transformative social change through Indigeneity, community, arts & culture, and spirituality.
We produce cultural events for communities in Northern California with Indigenous leaders from the Brazilian Amazon to share their music and culture and facilitate healing. These events support the Indigenous communities with cultural preservation, creating economic opportunities, and amplifying their environmental stewardship.
Nawabu gatherings support our communities here at home in accessing transformative healing experiences and reconnecting to Earth-Based traditions and practices. We seek to weave networks of solidarity and connection between artists, healers, activists, entrepreneurs, and change-makers, and inspire people to reconnect with their ancestral roots.
Building solidarity across communities and co-creating sacred spaces for healing toward both individual and collective liberation.
Nawabu Community Values
An ever growing, evolving, collaborative, and emergent list..
HONOR THE LAND AND WATERS WHERE YOU ARE
We honor and acknowledge the original people of the land that we are settlers upon.
Nawabu Culture was founded on Ohlone Territory. Go to Native-Land.CA to find out whose land you are on.
ANTI-OPPRESSION CULTURE
An active practice of addressing and speaking out against any form of oppression (racism, patriarchy, misogyny, white supremacy/any form of supremacy, anti-blackness ableism, homophobia, transphobia, etc)
CONTEXT/READ THE ROOM
Context is everything, and we acknowledge that this work is multicultural by nature and that it carries with it many nuanced socio-political hxstories that inform how we move and engage with it. We practice awareness of the intersectionalities and positionalities of each community member.
CENTERING
The voices and experiences of BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, differently-abled, low-income, survivors, immigrants, and all other hxstorically marginalized people.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Taking radical responsibility for your thoughts and behaviors and how settler colonialism, social conditioning, and intergenerational trauma contribute to these things.
TAKE NO SHIT, DO NO HARM
Stand up for yourself when needed and treat others as you’d like to be treated.
MULTIPLICITY OF REALITIES & COMPLEXITIES
Don’t ignore them.
SACRED ACTIVISM
The embodiment of joy, love, wisdom, compassion, and prayer met with the arrow-like radical precision of action in the world. We operate at the intersection of spirituality and social activism
It's about culture, it's about the next generation, it's about remembering, and it's about all of us.
